In St. Declan’s there is an excellent atmosphere in relation to sport. This is reflected in the variety of sports on offer and the numbers taking part. We believe that sport provides a special opportunity for personal development and for valuable interaction among students.
The school boasts a young and vibrant staff who are active and interested in a wide variety of sports. This enables our students to participate in hockey, athletics, ladies football, ladies soccer, hurling, football, soccer and equestrian.
We have the philosophy that no team or individual takes part in any competition without being well prepared. This philosophy has led to a positive attitude towards Sport and considerable success at County, Regional, Munster and All-Ireland levels.
The school has two fully qualified P.E. teachers. This enables a structured physical education programme to be implemented. The programme is enhanced by courses in dance and drama, horse riding, life saving, first aid, football, hurling and soccer coaching, hill walking, orienteering and self-defence with expertise being drawn from teachers within the school and qualified personnel from outside. Students of all levels of ability in sport are provided with the opportunity to get involved in many varied sporting activities
The success of our school in sport is based on three main factors:
• Students who are dedicated and interested in competing to the best of their abilities.
• Parents who pass on their interest and love of sport.
• Teachers who give up their spare time to prepare teams for competitions.
